"HALO" - MASTER CHIEF - Lunch-Bag - 2012

"HALO" - MASTER CHIEF was a request from my son for the first day of camp this year. The first Non-Star Wars lunch-bag. He discovered the HALO Mega-bloks toys this past year - (LEGO knock-off blocks that do not connect, or stay together as well as 'real' LEGO. Very disappointing stuff!) Needless to say, he thinks they are cooler than his LEGO 'cause the video game is rated M for Mature. A game and game system we do not own, I might add.  I had to find images from the web to work from. The geometry of the suits are very complex. I did what I could with my Sharpie's and pencil crayons.  He liked it.

COWERING YODA Lunch-bag - 2012

This Yoda bag was born out of need to draw something real fast. A quick sketch in my ideas book  and then onto this lunch-bag with the twist on a line out of "Empire Strikes Back" to finish it off.  I had to explain what the joke was to my son the next day: "See, Yoda actually says "Away with your 'weapon', I mean you no harm!" He looked at me and shrugged, "Ok." Funny to him it was not.

Darth Maul (On Red Lunchbag) - 2012

 For Day 2 of camp all I had left to work with was this left over Red loot bag. So I figured I'd attempt to draw the first 'Red' Star Wars guy I could think of. Hmmm.... Maul? I found a picture online that had plenty of dark shadows and then I started drawing it on the bag. Got out my black sharpies and my big-ass, black magic marker and started filling it in. I used a white grease pencil to get some white in the eyes and markered over that to add some yellow and a little white-out for the twinkle in his eyes. I finished it out with some silver marker for the teeth and it worked out pretty good. The eyes ended up a tad closer together than I would like, but hey, it's a a shiny red lunchbag.

Clone Trooper on Starbucks Lunch Bag - 2011

That Clone found a nice hiding spot behind that branch on the Starbucks bag. Third day of camp, if I recollect correctly. Before I cracked out he full-color spectrum of Sharpie markers and erasable pencil crayons!

Battle Droids Lunch Bag - 2011

Lets just say I liked the concept and my early sketch of this one, but the final artwork... is not on my favorites list. The Sharpie marker bled pretty bad on these cheapie paper bags. So, visually it was not as satisfying. And the drawing was done later in the evening... in a panic! There, there, there was a horrible fire! A flood! My car ran out of gas! I didn't have money for cab fare! It wasn't my fau-l-l-l-l-t!
Yeah, I've got caveats galore for this one. Except for the sandwich inside. The sandwich was magnificent!

Mace Windu Lunch Bag - 2011

Not one of my fav's, but at least I tried to do something other than a Clone guy. I think this was from the second week of camp. Probably the first attempt using the white-out tape to get some ultra white in the light saber.

Oily Clone Catches the LEGO Droid Lunch Bag - 2011

Another 2-parter lunch bag concept from the imagination of my son.

Can you tell he's watched a lot of Tom and Jerry and Tex Avery cartoons?
To make it a little less violent, I at least added the Droid saying he was going to 'hunt' Clones. So... like... he had it comin', right?! That Clone just saved a bunch of his Clone brothers. Way to go LEGO Clone guy!
Can you tell I've watched a lot of Warner Brothers...and Tex Avery and Tom and Jerry cartoons?
